PRIME: Problems of Recognition In Making Erasmus

In 2007, we celebrated the 20 Anniversary of the Erasmus Programme, however still problems exist. It is now time to solve them!

For this reason, ESN International upon request from the European Commission has developed the PRIME project to identify obstacles towards recognition of studies abroad. This project will reshape the landscape of student mobility through some easy steps:

  • Collect different application procedures (learning agreements) of various universities / faculties.

  • Compare these procedures.

  • Prepare final report.

  • Present report to sections, European Commission, professional education association, country governments, universities etc.

The first step can only be done by ESN sections because you have the knowledge and contacts. This phase lasts approximately from August 2008 until April 2009 depending on your semester dates. The last three steps will be conducted mainly by an international project team in which you also can take part. These stages have most workload from August 2008 to October 2009 and can involve sections on a voluntary basis with your prior agreement.

PRIME has the support of important organisations such as European Association for International Education, European Universities Association, European Students Union and AEGEE.

Hence, you can expect a lot for your section:

  • Be active in an international project needed by the European Commission and exchange students.

  • Take part in a project which will make a difference in Europe.

  • Work in the spirit of ESN - Students helping students.

  • Collaborate with your university which leads to stronger links, support, and recognition (work for your own future).

  • Guidance through the project by receiving all possible support from the international project team (questionnaire / checklists, contacts, support letters, detailed information, project description etc.).

The collection will kick off some when in August / September 2008 according to your schedule. Nevertheless, get active already now:

  • Decide within your section to be part of this project.

  • Identify one member in your section, fully responsible for the PRIME project (local coordinator) who will receive further information upon reception of the letter of intent.

  • Fill in the letter of intent attached and send it to prime-secretariat@esn.org until end of June!

  • Wait for more information to follow. You don't need to do anything else at this stage.

For the successful conduct of the project we also need people with special skills. If you feel like working on an international project which will have a global impact, enhance and use your skills and widen your experience, contact Matthias under prime-coordinator@esn.org.

  • Webmaster being able to handle a special Satellite, working closely with the Web Projects Administrator of ESN International.

  • Graphic person handling all graphic requests (creating of logo, web layout, publications).

  • PR expert working in close cooperation with Magda (external relations) and the press release working team.

Thank you for your collaboration, together we will make this project happen!!!

Any questions and comments will be answered on prime-coordinator@esn.org
