In a bit of a hurry (discover the reason below!) but this is my first post live from DrupalCon.
A good (double) session today about multilingual Drupal.
Especially interesting for ESN Satellite as I have always believed that:
- Many section websites will benefit from localized content, and localization is already a much requested feature in ESN Satellite. So ESN Satellite should be designed to support multiple languages.
- Many users will benefit from being able to see the website interface (like "Post comment", "Sign up for this event" and so on) in their own language.
Some notes about the current and coming situation:
- Drupal 4.7 supports a rudimentary localization process, quite bad to work with.
- With Drupal 5 (Satellite 2.0) the internationalization support is very improved. In short, we will be able to have a better workflow for translating the content of our site. It will already be a great step forward in usability for ESN Satellite administrators.
- Drupal 6 will have internationalization included in the core: every aspect will be localizable.
- Drupal 7 will have 100% support for localization.
I met Ignasi from ESN Barcelona at DrupalCon... therefore I'm joining the ESN Barcelona welcome party tonight!

Good to hear about the coming situation of i18n in upcoming Drupal releases. In Satellite 2.0, the i18n modules will be included in the core, together with language packs of languages spoken in the ESN countries. This way we want to promote, as Andrea suggests, bilinguality of the ESN websites (English + local language).
