Summer time, holiday time. What's true for (nearly) everybody, it's true for us as well. In August, we took some time off from our work over here. Giorgio went to Italy, so did Francesca. Kamila visited Poland, and well Andim stayed in Turkey... Since she still was not awarded a visa, she unfortunately couldn't join us yet. And me? Well, I went to see a Dutch friend from my exchange year. Coincidentally, he had guests from Switzerland and Austria from our year abroad with him. After a couple of days I returned back to Brussels to enjoy the rest of my one-week holiday with a friend from France. Amazing what internationality student exchange can bring.
Brussels showed itself from its best side. Everybody told me Brussels would be dead during summer but that's somehow not true. One festival or event follow the other. Regularly, on Friday and Saturday nights I had difficulties which program to follow. Well, nothing to complain about I know. Though, people don't stay in this city for long. Everybody seems to use this city for only a short stop in their lives. So, it's a bit like ESN and the friendships we make with our exchange students or ESN members - short (not from the longevity point of view of course) but intense. Hence I'm happy that I made this experience before and don't need to go through it again.
And as a good friend of mine says: You always meet twice.
So, I do hope that's true for us as well and we'll see us on one of the various ESN occasion coming up soon.
My best wishes are with you, Matthias
