ESN alumni meeting in Siena, end of May

(I republish an announcement by Marco Turra, meeting organizer; I'm not personally involved in organizing this meeting, even though I'm looking forward to it!)

The webpage is http://EAMsiena2008.esn.it and it now contains more up-to-date information, refer to it instead of the preliminary announcement below.

The hostel is booked for 35 people, plus some places in Marco's house. http://ostellionline.org/ostello.php?idostello=572

Programme

Friday 30th May:
- Arrival in hostel
- Visit of Siena
- Medieval dinner at restaurant Gallo Nero with a lot of wine from Tuscany!
- Party in the City, with COCKTAILS home made IN PIAZZA DEL CAMPO!

Saturday 31st May:
- Plenary in the university, ELECTION OF THE 1° ALUMNI BOARD
- Lunch in the student restaurant
- Wine tour in Chianti region, visiting medieval villages and wine tasting with the erasmus students of Siena
- dinner and party in "Casa del Turrismo" MARCO'S HOUSE WITH FOOD AND WINE in the countryside with gardens and fantastic view over the hills of Siena, with our DJ Wilmer and Erjon!

Sunday 1st June:
- Plenary at the hostel, just in case, or more time in lovely Siena!
- Arrivederci

As you can see, after the analcoholic experience in France it's very clear and important that the ESN EVENT and the PALLOMERI SPIRIT will be for sure present! In Italy you don't have this problem!

The fee is 77 euro for 3 days 2 nights with: breakfast in the hostel, dinner at restaurant Gallo Nero, dinner-party in Marco's house, Chianti winetasting, bus tour on the tuscan hills and medieval villages.

Not included right now: lunches (we are waiting for an answer from the university, but otherwise there are sandwiches or pizza at 2-3 euro); transport back to the hostel on saturday night after the party, 5-7 euro taxi.

This is the basic programme, but if you want to stay longer in Siena, and don't go to Firenze, Roma or home we can organise another wine tour in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, which I'm doing for a living http://sienaholiday.com/BusTours.htm , San Gimignano, Val d'Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Crete Senesi…and free hot spa!

How to arrive in Siena: airport of Pisa is the closest and also the cheapest: check http://www.zingarate.com/lowcost/scheda_e.php?id=20 this page to know the low cost companies which fly there. From the airport a train takes you to Siena for 7 euro in 2 hours, check http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ferrovie/util/inglese.jsp
Otherwise from Milano, Roma or Bologna there is direct bus with www.sena.it that sometime costs 8 euro, but usually not during weekend. Anyway, it is often cheaper than the train.

Dead line to register: 20th april, or later if you want to stay in another hotel, but this will be much more expensive for sure: 30-50 euro extra.

Take Care

Alumni in Supernova

A group of active and brilliant guys wants to build the ESN Alumni Network.

While this isn't the first attempt at it, there are high chances that it will be the last one: I really hope that ESN Alumni will finally be established this time.

So the ESN Webteam and the ESN Board decided to host this attempt on Supernova... because everyone will be an ESN Alumnus sooner or later!

Be the next Web Projects Administrator!

Updated after AGM: Call is still open, apply today!

Dear ESN actives, as you know a new figure will be in the Board 2008/09: the Web Projects Administrator. We, the ESN Webteam, fully supported the proposal which was approved in Besancon.

First Satellite meeting outcomes

We had a great time in Brussels for the First Satellite Meeting last weekend (Dec. 15-16).

The webteam could meet in person for only the second time after AGM and start discussing future projects and extensions.

Automatic ESN Satellite installation: an alternative to profiles?

There were a few interesting talks today, but I'm describing the most relevant for ESN Satellite 2.

Sifbuilder presented their proposal about Automatic drupal site generation, module creation and site clonage: it is an alternative to installation profiles, developed by some guys who, answering my question, said they had never heard of installation profiles until yesterday.

Installation profiles: how to remove the star

Blogging today about yesterday, because of network problems.

Our famous Prague presentation had a star (I mean an asterisk, in case your thoughts are distorted by the many celestial objects in ESN!): you could

Fire your webmaster*

*After he had installed ESN Satellite for you.

That is, the installation process in ESN Satellite 1.0 is still a bit hard for a non-technical person.

Lowering this barrier is one of the aims for ESN Satellite 2.0, thanks to the installation profiles available in Drupal 5.

Multilingual Drupal, coming soon to a Satellite near you!

In a bit of a hurry (discover the reason below!) but this is my first post live from DrupalCon.

A good (double) session today about multilingual Drupal.

Especially interesting  for ESN Satellite as I have always believed that:

Webteam meets Drupal

In the early morning of tomorrow (well, today, i.e., Tuesday) I will leave for Barcelona. I will be attending the DrupalCon, the annual conference of Drupal developers.

What do Drupal and ESN have in common? Much more than it appears at first view: Drupal is the award-winning engine behind ESN Satellite, the technology upon which our popular website template is based.

My expectations for the coming conference are two-fold:
