The Erasmus Day Brussels was an event organised through a unique cooperation between students from a Flemish and a French-speaking university. ESN Brussels (VUB) and Express (ULB) organized this Erasmus Day in the heart of Brussels on June 28th. We invited all the present, past and future Erasmus students who were in Brussels and beyond to join us in these celebrations and we welcomed the Erasmus Van at its final stage.
This day was a really special one for ESN: not only because we were celebrating the last Erasmus Day starring the ESN Van, this event was also organised by two organisations: ESN Brussels and Express, each belonging to a different language community and university. In this sense, this project is quite unique, joining Flemish and French students in making one great event come true.
The first part consisted of a reception offered by the mayor of Brussels, inside the old gothic town hall of Brussels. Erasmus students were welcomed by the driving forces behind this event: Jakob (ESN Brussels) and Nicolas (Express), the city council and the mayor who addressed the students in not less then five languages!
Then the ESN International Board and Van crew presented a summary of the tour on a big screen while the others were enjoying Champaign and the many delicious Brussels’ specialities for the last time before they were to go home at the semesters’ end.
Right after this, a selected group of students joined Renato Girelli (European Commission, Erasmus Unit), Ewa Krzaklewska (ESN’s former vice-president) and representatives of both the Belgian communities who are dealing with Erasmus exchange for a spicy debate in the attic overlooking the Grand Place of Brussels. Myself, as NR of Belgium, had the honour to be moderator of this discussion as last part of the day’s formalities.

More informal was the evening disco in our base club You, where Erasmus students had the chance for a last shake, and ultimate swing and an enjoyed the end of an unforgettable day!
